The Leisure Society - The Sleeper (2009)

Wilkommen is more than a record label, it is a collective of musicians that have met and grown to create together over years of musical adventures. The band, composed of Burton-Upon-Trent expatriates, evolves around two key players: a songwriter, Nick Hemming and a multi-instrumentalist, Christian Hardy.  This project has been described as “a clean, nostalgic folk sound underpinned by unmistakably Ray Davies-like wry and whimsical songwriting.” I am a big  fan of this type of endearing passion that is so obvious in what we hear in this music. Folk music can remain simple and cliché, yet these guys offer well orchestrated and nicely produced dandies. Songs that feel good! A contender for album of the year, perhaps? -Rocksellout.com
